It was the 16th of July, the night of the full moon. We arrived at the hotel in Zanzibar, where they told us a big full moon party was going to take place. A few lanterns showed the way; we were surrounded by palm trees, a beautiful beach and a lot of alcohol. The performers up on the stage were actually acrobats, and they executed a few tricks with fire. This was just the beginning; people kept arriving at the beach. Everybody seemed so happy, as their sole concern was to keep on dancing.
As I observed my surroundings, I saw people from different countries and cultures, united, dancing under the same rhythm and the light of the full moon. I left for a few moments the camera in my bag and entered the crowd. I started to dance and became one of them. Everybody kept dancing tirelessly for hours.
All this continued until the darkness dissipated and the colors of the sunrise appeared on the horizon. Some slept on the sand, others sat on the sunbeds and observed the spectacle, some - very few - continued to dance. It was time to go back. We promised to ourselves that we would came back and dance with all these people under the moonlight and in sync with the african vibes.
We have experienced real magic during that night. We would never forget that: “This is Africa”.
