Jordan Explored: A Personal Journey and Travel Guide in the Middle East
In the heart of the Middle East, my adventure began in the vibrant city of Amman. As I wandered through its bustling souks, I was captivated by the tapestry of colors and aromas that filled the narrow streets. Amman's lively markets offered an authentic glimpse into Jordanian culture, where locals bartered for spices, textiles, and handcrafted treasures. I couldn't resist the temptation to taste fresh falafel and savor the unique flavors of local cuisine. The city's history, dating back to ancient times, revealed itself in the Roman Theater and Amman Citadel, offering a fascinating blend of modern life and rich heritage. My visit was in the last week of March and the first of April 2023, during Ramadan.
Amman surprised me with its convenient sim card system, which allowed me to navigate the city with ease. With a simple purchase, I could top up my card and use my MB with convenience. The city's numerous currency exchange offices made it hassle-free to obtain local money for my daily adventures.

After four days in Amman, I set my sights on Petra, the breathtaking ancient city carved into rose-red cliffs. Walking through the narrow Siq, I felt a sense of wonder as the Treasury came into view. The history and majesty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site left an indelible mark on my journey. Meeting locals who warmly shared stories and insights added depth to my Petra experience.
My journey into the Jordanian desert was a truly transformative experience. Venturing to the peak of a sandstone mountain, I embarked on an exhilarating desert hike that revealed the unparalleled beauty of Wadi Rum's vast and rugged landscapes. The panoramic views from the summit were nothing short of awe-inspiring, with the endless expanse of sand and stone stretching out in all directions beneath the expansive desert sky. As I stood at the peak, I felt a profound connection to the timeless nature of this arid wilderness.
One memorable day, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the traditions of the Bedouin people, who have thrived in these harsh desert environments for generations. In their traditional camp, I savored sweet Bedouin tea and enjoyed the warm hospitality of my hosts. The camels, with their stately presence and quiet strength, were an integral part of this desert life, providing essential transportation and companionship. Spending time among the Bedouins and their camels, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards of life in the desert, forging connections and memories that would stay with me long after I left Wadi Rum.
In conclusion, as I journeyed through the heart of Jordan, from the bustling souks of Amman to the ancient wonders of Petra and the serene expanses of Wadi Rum, I discovered a land of rich history, warm hospitality, and breathtaking landscapes. The people I met and the experiences I encountered along the way left an indelible mark on my soul. Jordan's harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, its vibrant culture, and its incredible natural wonders make it a place that will forever be etched in my memories.
In the words of T.E. Lawrence, who knew these desert landscapes intimately, "All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible." My journey through Jordan was a testament to the power of realizing dreams with open eyes, for it was in the heart of this ancient land that I found my inspiration and the extraordinary stories that will continue to inspire my work as a documentary photographer. Jordan's story is a treasure trove of experiences and encounters, and I look forward to my next chapter in this remarkable tale.
